The Silent League’s “Let It Roll” off Of Stars And Other Somebodies out December 6 on File 13 Records.

“Vohvar” Exclusive MP3 Premiere - Pitchfork

Mick Barr is not the sort of guitarist to just chill on the money chords, putting out the catchy riffs and hanging off the pentatonic scale until the familiarity sends you tripping.” - Decibel Magazine

Mick Barr is the ridiculously gifted weird-metal guitarist whose shredding always sounds too mathematically assured to be the work of just one guy with one instrument.” - Stereogum

“[Coiled Malescence is] an amazing snapshot of one of the greatest metal guitarists of our generation.” - OMG Vinyl

What’s amazing about Coiled Malescence is how much it does have to say. There’s the sheer quantity of musical information Barr’s virtuosity puts forward, and the advanced formal ideas, but then there’s also a range of extremely subtle acoustic effects created by Barr’s relentless, machinelike repetitions. And maybe most surpassingly, upon close scrutiny, his telegraphic riffs decipher themselves as a language of feeling.” - Hartford Advocate

If you enjoy Brian Wilson, Roy Wood, mescaline-laced gin and tonics, and having your ears delicately ravaged then discover the band that critics say “teeters between playful indie rock and throwback psychedelia.”

M.T. Bearington’s sophomore LP Love Buttons (Safety Meeting Records) is a patchwork collection of love songs, though perhaps not in the conventional sense. Produced by Fuzzy Rainbow Production (Fake Babies, Eula) and Greg Giorgio (Interpol, The National), the 11 tracks contained herein spin tales of tender romances and twisted trysts, all told from the perspectives of real and fictional characters.

Originally intended as a bedroom recording project, M.T. Bearington (aka Matt Thomas formerly of Weigh Down) eventually marched out of the boudoir after Thomas’ friend Jason Hammel (Mates of State) persuaded him to put together a live band to share a bill in 2008. Thus the Bearington Band was lovingly stitched together.

Don’t expect any “Maggie May”-style ballads on Love Buttons. These songs are quasi-insane art-folk ramblings of the highest caliber. Electric guitars and synthesizers are deployed alongside autoharps, bells, and shakers creating an indulgent and beautiful cacophony anchored by Thomas’ breathy caterwaul. No one comes away unscathed, be it James Spader (“Let’s all go out and fuck a car crash”) in “Car Crash” or hipsters (Out there in Brooklyn would find you a star, man / Your post apocalyptic war paint eyes / In our future you didn’t survive”) in “Safety.” Trust us, even if you already have a steady thing, you’ll love a little M.T. Bearington on the side.
